Dr. Daniel Owusu Asiamah nominated for MTN HEROES OF CHANGE”

Philanthropist Dr. Daniel Owusu Asiamah, has been nominated to feature on the MTN heroes of change due to the selfless help he offers to the needy and the less privilege in some deprived communities in Ghana. The nominee has a vocational school in the Whindo community in Western Region that trains JHS graduates who’s parents can’t afford to further the education of their wards after they have graduated from middle school due to poverty at home.

Speaking to a group of journalists Dr. Daniel Owusu Asiamah, said growing up he saw how his mother struggled to cater for him before having access to education for him to have come this far in life to become a missionary and preacher.”Without education, no country would develop, however, in Ghana one has to buy education, which means that without money no future {education} for our wards, i feel therefore, for the teeming young people whose plight are now similar to mine when i was at their age”.
He stated further, that he chose vocational education because with that, the graduate can do something with his/her hands to earn a living and also help in the development of the country.

The school was setup in 2008 to train young people in vocational discipline as; fashion design, food and nutrition, hair and beauty, architectural draftsmanship as the core subjects. Besides, the school also teaches English language, mathematics, entrepreneurship and basic computer.

Dr. Daniel Owusu Asiamah, said since the inception of the school he has been using his personal funds to operate the school. The free school project has impacted number of people both old and young. Our major challenge has been financial, with more financial support we will be able to do more than what we are currently doing for the needy and the less privilege in most of our communities, the school has turn down a number of qualified applicants due to lack of facility.

I’m really happy to see the government of the day implementing the free SHS policy to assist parents who have the desire to further the education of their wards but due to financial constraints they can’t, and this will grant most children living in the deprive areas access to education in the country.

Kweku Eshun who nominated Dr. Daniel Owusu Asiamah, for the MTN heroes of change awards stated the reason why he nominated him for a noble price, “he has always stated that, whatever he is doing is from his own pocket so just imagine, if all that he is doing for the needy is coming from his pockets the when he is being supported, he will even do more.”
“I always feel happy anytime I see him at work, because in this world, a lot of people need help and assistance, so if God is using him to touch others we need to be thankful as well as their lives have been touched”

Member of the council of elders in the Whindo community in Takoradi in the Western Region madam Elizabeth Appiah, shared her view on the nomination of Dr. Daniel Owusu Asiamah, said some years ago ,Dr. Daniel came into the community with some men of God in search of a piece of land for their project to setup a training facility to enroll JHS graduates whose parents can’t afford to further their wards education. Since then I have known him to be a man of God with a heart of Gold and with good vision for the growth and development of mankind.

The project has brought financial freedom to the people of the community and has also helped reduce teenage pregnancy amongst the youth in this community. It has brought people from all parts of the country and outside the country to train our people for free. Madam Elizabeth Appiah, stated that Dr. Daniel Owusu Asiamah, deserves more than a reward because he has been a blessing to many, for not being a native of the community but to establish this project for free for them to benefit from .
